Afraid of Sunburn? Eat Mackerel, Herring, Trout and Salmon

People who eat trout, salmon, mackerel or herring are less subject to the risk of sunburn. According to the studies fatty acids contained in these types of fish protect skin from sunburn.

"Dr. L. E. Roads from the Manchester University conducted a series of studies dedicated to skin diseases, particularly caused by sunburns, and more severe diseases like skin cancer. The studies have shown that omega 3 fatty acids help to decrease inflammatory processes and skin irritations caused by ultra violet rays. In other words, omega 3 fatty acids protect human body from solar radiation", - Adis V. Biler, Senior Consultant of the Norwegian Seafood Export Council (NSEC), has told.

Fat fish - herring, salmon, trout and mackerel - protect human skin from sunburn. Human skin among other things consists of polyunsaturated fatty acids of omega 6 (vegetable oil) and omega 3 (fish oil) type. In order to achieve the best functioning of skin it is necessary to preserve the corresponding balance between these types of fatty acids.

"If the amount of omega 6 acids exceeds the amount of omega 3 acids, human body becomes more subject to inflammatory and some other disease processes. It is proved that in case of a sunburn that represents skin irritation omega 3 fatty acids have positive effects and prevent skin inflammation", - Adis V. Biler adds.

"According to the scientists nowadays human skin becomes more and more subject to sunburn. This is caused by a series of factors, including destruction of the ozone layer of the Earth. Some scientists also believe that increased skin sensibility to sunrays and environment pollution factors is caused by essential changes in human diet that have taken place during the last 50 years. According to our data against the background of increased consumption of cheap vegetable oil in the West Europe we observe sharp reduction of sea fats consumption ", - Adis V. Biler also said.
